New Laser Filter and Sand Remover systems are designed to improve the recycling of difficult materials such as water sachets and polyethylene film.
On 20 March 2025, UNIDO, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Environment and with support from the Government of Japan, commissioned upgraded recycling technology at Environmental Expressions Limited, a recycling company in Abuja.
The upgrade includes a Laser Filter System and a Sand Remover System, intended to improve the recycling of difficult materials such as water sachets and polyethylene film.
The technology is designed to improve production efficiency, product quality and the economic feasibility of recycling, while reducing the amount of plastic waste that ends up in dumpsites.
